As the successor to the W 123 series, the new mid-range model generation, available from December 1984, quickly became popular. Its overall technical concept drew heavily on the compact class; by using high-strength steel panels and other weight-reducing materials, the new models achieved a notable reduction in fuel consumption. Just a few years later, in September 1989, a completely revised mid-range lineup was presented at the Frankfurt IAA. In October 1990, the 500 E emerged as the new top model of the W 124 series, boasting a 326 PS, 5.0 l V8 four-valve engine. This exclusive model was produced in collaboration with Porsche. It is therefore only fitting that the 500 E saloon W 124 is available as a 1:18 scale miniature in every collection. The precision model, hand assembled from over 128 individual parts, faithfully reproduces all interior details and allows six components (doors, bonnet and tailgate) to be opened. The saloon is finished in an authentic paint shade and delivered in Mercedes-Benz Classic packaging, complete with a screwdriver and glove for safe removal of the model.
