The handcrafted driver's cap made from the finest leather was produced exclusively for Mercedes-Benz Classic. It impresses with its perfect craftsmanship and top quality. The inner lining was fitted with the original upholstery look of the legendary 300 SL Gullwing.

In the early 20th century, the leather bonnet is an outward sign of the high pace of innovation in vehicle technology and the boldness of the drivers. The rapid development of the automobile meant that its top speed increased continuously: the Benz Patent Motor Car from 1886 reached a maximum speed of 16 km/h. By 1901, the Mercedes 35 PS had already reached a formidable 75 km/h, and the bonnet had long since become a necessary form of protection.

Alongside the automobile, the aeroplane shaped modern mobility in the early 20th century. Its pilots came up with the idea of tight-fitting leather bonnets to protect against wind and weather.

The leather bonnet lives on in the classic car scene with its fascinating events. This is because it is often part of the outfit of drivers of early historic cars. And then, of course, there are the daring ones who switch off all systems even in cooler outside temperatures and drive through the world as they used to: with the roof down and, of course, with a leather bonnet.
